Longfellow Pond
16 September 2006
It still looks and feels like summer here.
Today was a perfect day for a walk.
A bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) sits at the edge of the water.
This is another view of the same frog. The floating plants are duckweed.
I believe these are American black ducks (Anas rubripes). Formerly the dominant duck hereabouts, they have largely been driven out by Mallards.

This is a closer view of one of the ducks.
The Hastings family burial plot, on a bank overlooking the pond, dates from 1837.

Fall flowers are everywhere.
The bees really love the goldenrod in the "butterfly meadow".
