Cutler Park in Late May
28 May 2006

My route through the park is marked in green; I started from the left.

It looks a lot like summer as I head for the park.

Cutler Lake, otherwise known as Kendrick Pond, sparkles in the warm sunshine.

And into the woods I go.

Parasitic vines are common here.

A woodland brook finds its way to the marsh.

There are more woods on the far side of the railroad track.

Similar to the boardwalk leading to Powell's Island, this one crosses the marsh to the Dedham town line.

Looking back across the marsh, Millennium Park, across the Charles in West Roxbury, is visible behind the railroad embankment. Compare this view with the one from my last visit.

The end of the trail is not far now.

This is a look back the way I came, toward the radio towers on the other side of the park.

"'The Dead Marshes, yes, yes: that is their name,' he cackled. 'You should not look in when the candles are lit.'"

This is the end of the path at the Dedham town line. The structure on the right is empty; I wonder what purpose it once served.
